Spring Paint Night Ideas

A canvas of cherry blossoms and tulips on an easel

Spring canvases should look fresh, which means thin paint and a lot of background left showing. Heavy paint turns blossoms into blobs. These three ideas stay light on purpose.

Cherry blossoms

Paint a few brown branches first. Tap pink and white with a dry round brush or a fingertip along the branches. Leave gaps. A branch with too many blossoms looks like a sponge.

Tulips

Three cup shapes on straight stems, with two long leaves. The cup is a U with a slight point. Paint them in one colour so the bunch reads as a set. This is a good girls' night canvas in April.

Rain on a window

A soft grey-blue background, a simple tree or flower outside, then a few vertical rain lines. It is atmospheric without being hard. Stop before the lines cover the subject.
