Winter Paint Night Ideas

A canvas of snowy birch trees on an easel

Winter paintings look finished sooner than other seasons because the white of the canvas, or a pale wash, does half the work. You are painting a few dark marks and letting the rest stay snow.

Birch trees

A light blue or grey sky. Two or three white trunks with a few black horizontal marks. The ground is a low white hill. Do not fill the sky with snowflakes. Ten dots, if any.

Snowy hill and moon

One curved hill across the bottom. A moon. Maybe one small tree. This is the winter version of the moon theme, and it is the right choice for a group that wants quiet colours.

Cabin light

A small dark rectangle, a triangle roof, one yellow window. Hills around it in white and blue. The window is the focal point. If the cabin gets too detailed, the light stops mattering.
