How to Host a Paint Night at Home

A kitchen table set with a canvas, acrylics, a paper plate palette, and brushes

Hosting a paint night at home is a setup problem more than an art problem. Pick the canvas before people arrive, limit the colours, and decide when the brushes go down. The ideas on this site are all built for that limit.

Buy this, not the whole aisle

One canvas per person, three acrylic colours plus white and black, a flat brush, a round brush, a paper plate, and a water cup. Table covers and aprons matter more than a 24-colour set. Extra colours slow people down.

The order of the night

Cover the table. Paint the background together. Take a break. Paint the main shape. Take a short break. Add one highlight. Then stop, even if someone wants to keep going. Open-ended nights run long and the paintings get overworked.

Choose the theme from the beginner list, the seasonal guides, or a single project such as the sunflower or the galaxy. Do not ask the group to invent the picture at the table.

When to use the studio instead

If you do not want paint in the kitchen, or the group is 10 or more, book the studio. We set up, guide the painting, and clean up. Private nights start at $45 a guest. You bring the guest list. We bring the easels.
