Hosting gets easier when the list is split across four weeks. This countdown starts at the end of October, which is the right time if Thanksgiving is late November.
Four weeks out
- Choose the date and the guest count.
- Note allergies.
- Pick the menu, not the shopping list yet.
- Borrow extra chairs if you need them.
Two weeks out
- Shop the non-food items: napkins, candles, a simple centrepiece.
- Assign one dish to anyone who offered.
- Set the kids' table plan.
One week out
- Buy the food that keeps.
- Clean the bathroom guests will use.
- Print place cards if you are using them.
The day before
- Set the table.
- Prep anything that can wait in the fridge.
- Charge the camera. Then stop.
