Easy Paint and Sip Ideas

Two simple landscape canvases, brushes, and glasses on a paint and sip table

Paint and sip works when the painting has built-in pauses. People came to talk. A canvas with six tiny steps and no stopping point turns the table quiet and frustrated. These ideas leave room for a drink and a conversation between each stage.

Three canvases that leave time to talk

A banded sky needs one wash, a wait, and a horizon. A city skyline is black shapes on a dry sunset. A single peony is a circle, then petals, then a stem. Each stage is about 20 minutes, then you put the brush down.

Avoid portraits and lettering. Faces and words show every wobble, and guests start comparing. A landscape does not.

Set the table so nothing spills into the glass

Water cups go on the right, drinks on the left, or the other way around for the whole table. One rule is enough. Use small brushes so people are not loading a wide brush over a glass.

If you are hosting at home, keep the drinks off the paint side of the table. In the studio, we set that split before anyone sits down.

What to say between steps

Name the step, show it once, then stop talking for ten minutes. A running commentary makes people wait. The host line that helps is: background first, shape second, one bright mark at the end.
