Apple Stamping and Print Crafts for Preschoolers

Apple stamping is a preschool favourite because the shape is already done. You cut the apple. They press.

What you need

  • One apple, cut across the middle
  • Washable paint in a shallow tray
  • Thick paper

Set up

Put a thin layer of paint in a tray. Too much paint makes a blob instead of an apple.

Press, do not rub

Show your child to press straight down and lift. Rubbing smears the star in the centre.

Four easy prints

  • A row of red apples across the top of the page.
  • One big print turned into a face with a marker.
  • Apple prints as the feathers of a paper bird.
  • A pattern: apple, leaf, apple, leaf.

When you are done

The apple goes in the compost. The page needs an hour to dry before it can be a card.

Want the mess to stay at the studio? Open Studio in Milton is a drop-in hour for this kind of making. Weekend sessions are on the events page.

Pair this with a colouring page if they want to keep going after the paint is finished.
