A sunflower is the beginner canvas people already know how to see. The centre is a circle. The petals are strokes that touch that circle. If those two things are true, it reads as a sunflower even when the petals are uneven.<\/p>\n

Order of painting<\/h2>\n

Paint the background first in a soft blue or warm cream and let it sit. Then the brown centre, slightly above the middle so there is room for a stem. Petals are pulled from the centre outward with a flat brush. The stem and two leaves go on last.<\/p>\n

Use two yellows if you have them, one for the base of the petal and one for the tip. One yellow still works.<\/p>\n

Mistakes that are easy to fix<\/h2>\n

Petals that look like a fringe got too thin. Load the brush and make fewer, wider strokes. A centre that looks flat needs a few darker dots, not a new drawing. A stem that is too thin can be painted over once.<\/p>\n
