Ages 6 to 8 can follow a longer plan, use scissors with care, and fix a mistake. These crafts add weaving, folding, and simple building. Offer the steps, then step back. Help when they ask, not at the first wobble.<\/p>\n

Paper weave mat<\/h2>\n

Ages:<\/strong> 6\u20138. Time:<\/strong> 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

You need:<\/strong> two colours of paper, scissors, glue.<\/p>\n

  1. Fold one sheet in half and cut slits from the fold, stopping before the edge.<\/li>\n
  2. Unfold it. This is the loom.<\/li>\n
  3. Cut the second sheet into strips.<\/li>\n
  4. Weave over and under, then glue the ends.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If a slit tears through, tape the back and keep going.<\/p>\n

    Cardboard-tube robot<\/h2>\n

    Ages:<\/strong> 6\u20138. Time:<\/strong> 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

    You need:<\/strong> toilet-paper tubes, box scraps, tape, markers.<\/p>\n

    1. Stack two tubes and tape them.<\/li>\n
    2. Add box feet and tube arms.<\/li>\n
    3. Draw a face and buttons.<\/li>\n
    4. Name one thing the robot can do.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Tape beats glue here. Glue slips while they are still building.<\/p>\n

      Accordion animal<\/h2>\n

      Ages:<\/strong> 6\u20138. Time:<\/strong> 25 minutes.<\/p>\n

      You need:<\/strong> a long paper strip, scrap paper, markers.<\/p>\n

      1. Fold the strip back and forth into an accordion.<\/li>\n
      2. Draw a head and glue it on one end.<\/li>\n
      3. Add a tail on the other end.<\/li>\n
      4. Open and close the folds so the animal stretches.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Four folds are enough. More folds make the paper too stiff.<\/p>\n

        Map of a made-up place<\/h2>\n

        Ages:<\/strong> 6\u20138. Time:<\/strong> 30 minutes.<\/p>\n

        You need:<\/strong> paper, pencil, markers.<\/p>\n

        1. Draw a river or road first.<\/li>\n
        2. Add three places: a home, a shop, and a park.<\/li>\n
        3. Label them in their own spelling.<\/li>\n
        4. Tell a one-minute story about the map.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Spelling can be inventive. The point is planning a picture.<\/p>\n
